Candidate Obama told automakers that “I’ll be a president who keeps the promise to provide domestic automakers the funding to retool their factories and make fuel-efficient vehicles cars.” One year later the federal government took over GM and Chrysler in one of the most radical moves in history. The taxpayers of this nation have part ownership, but don’t expect to cash in your shares anytime soon.
The President said the government would work to eliminate the need for oil imports from the Middle East and Venezuela. Since that speech the administration along with the environmentalists have block nearly all efforts to increase domestic production through new drilling. The price of gas has gone from an average low of $1.42 a gallon in Dec 2008 to a current $2.54 per gallon and rising.
The federal government is considering many measures Under “Cap and Trade” legislation which threatens natural resources and possibility take down the coal industry. Is this the direction we want? Is this the change we thought we would get?"
